My 11 year old is in his first year of band. He has a traditional rental trombone and I bought him the p bone to keep as a visual reminder to practice everyday. It really works! It is fun, lightweight, and inspires him to play. Since it isn't as precious, he plays it outside and around the house. I guess overall, he spends more time with the p bone than he did with his rental trombone and is more likely to pick it up on his own. When he first got it, we played hours of "p bone or trombone?" and our untrained ears were unable to distinguish. All in all, after several weeks the p bone continues to serve the purpose I had hoped for at home. I will update this review if the band teacher feels differently, since is he required to play on the rental at school.

The best composition prrgoam I have come across that enables you to prrgoam instruments via MIDI and loop custom drum beats is FL Studio. I use the producer edition, but that may be a bit out of most people's price range if you can get around that somehow, go for it.

Hi Joe,

I can totally agree with all of the feelings you are describing - I get so lethargic during the winter time, and we don't have it half as bad as you do up in MI (I'm in PA)!

I tend to give in to the aches and sleepiness, but I love your suggestions for fighting it and using your time and energy for better things. I'm looking forward to attending an upcoming January Orff Workshop hosted by Rollo Dillworth as well as some local concerts and events. I have to admit, though - many nights, you can find me curled up on the couch with a steamy beverage and my laptop, cruising Twitter and reading all of the "on-demand" PD that you can find there!

Stay warm!

I'd love to hear more about what you're doing in your classroom, or just plans you have in general for the upcoming year-- maybe you might want to consider submitting to http://www.leadingnotes.org? check out http://www.leadingnotes.org/submissions for more info. It'd be great to have you submit!

Elizabeth,

It took me nearly two full summers to find gainful employment. It was frustrating at times, but well worth the wait. Keep pounding the pavement!

Thanks for this post!! I am currently in the job search process, so this post is very helpful and encouraging. It has definitely been a frustrating process so far, so I really appreciate your suggestions and words of encouragement.
